STUDIO M02 - RE:CREATION OF CHIMNEY
Location:Thermal power plant "Power and Light", Belgrade
The theme of this experimental project is the observation of the object as a machine and its translation into architecture. The greatest inspiration for the building were the inventions of Nikola Tesla, whose principles were used in the creation of this utopian / dystopian project.
Concept
The search for the concept begins with visiting the location and listening to the unheard music of that mystical place. The search for the frequency of the place directed the further development of the project towards the construction of a machine that recognizes those frequencies/waves. Those processes are followed by the formation of functions performed by waves such as power, generation, transmission, emission, and the appearance of structures such as receivers and transmitters. Tesla's tower or Wardenclyffe tower served as inspiration, and the principle of its functioning was adopted in the formation of the transmitter towers, that is, the recreation of the chimney.
Form and Function
The location of the project is a thermal power plant "Power and Light". It consists of a crane that stretches in one part of the city and is divided into primary, secondary and tertiary sectors. Different contents are arranged on that crane in relation to the zones that the parts of the crane cover. The focal point is the old building of the thermal power plant, which is given the new function of a scientific research center, while new structures appear in the form of a student campus, a laboratory and a crane control capsule.
